IAFPD Certificate in Coaching
Introducing the Cognitive-behavioural approach to coaching
The Certificate in Coaching (Option 1) is our most popular professional body and Approved Recognised coaching programme delivered by the Centre. It forms part of the Association for Coaching Accredited Advanced Diploma in Coaching programme.
It introduces learners to the cognitive-behavioural approach to coaching. The trainers are experienced cognitive-behavioural coaches who have published work on the approach. It is run about every six weeks at the British Psychological Society offices in London, UK. There are two versions of the programme. Option 2 is for qualified counsellors and psychotherapists who wish to attend a conversion course.
GENERAL DETAILS
Both of these courses are Approved by the British Psychological Society Learning Centre, and Approved by the International Society for Coaching Psychology. They form part of the Association for Coaching Accredited Advanced Diploma in Coaching programme. These two 5-day intensive or 6-day programmes each have the same aims and objectives but cover the theory and practice of coaching from different perspectives. The courses introduce the traditional GROW model of coaching and cover the cognitive-behavioural Dual Systems and SPACE models. The pre-course reading includes Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (Neenan, 2018). These courses form part of the Centre’s Advanced Certificate and Diploma in Coaching programmes.
Option 1
This programme is suitable for trainee coaches, managers, personnel staff, management consultants, psychologists, trainers and others interested in learning about coaching and the cognitive behavioural approach.
NB. This programme is not suitable for experienced coaches or those professionals already accredited in the cognitive behavioural approach.
Option 2
This programme is run specifically as a conversion course for qualified counsellors and psychotherapists. The aims and objectives are similar to Option 1. However, issues raised and discussed by the course participants may reflect their advanced therapeutic experience. Time will be given to ensuring that counsellors and psychotherapists develop appropriate coaching, rather than therapeutic skills and interventions. Option 2 is only available in-house for organisations.
NB. This programme is not suitable for experienced coaches or those professionals already accredited in the cognitive behavioural approach.
